Bear Cub and Little League BaseballUpdated Monday January 5, 2015 by Upper Arlington Bear Cub Baseball.
Starting in 2014, UA Bear Cub Baseball chartered with Little League Baseball - one of the oldest and most notorious youth sports associations in the United States. As a member of Little League, UA Bear Cub Baseball players aged 9 through 12 will have the opportunity to play on an end of season Little League sponsored All-Star Team. The ultimate prize for the 11 and 12 year olds is the chance to compete in the Little League World Series which is played in Williamsport, PA and televised annually by ESPN. Bear Cub Baseball will continue to operate as normal, managing six leagues in UA ranging from Pre-K to 6th grade. The Little League All Star Teams will be assembled at the end of the regular Bear Cub season.
UABCB will enter four teams into the tournaments – two in the 9/10 age groups, one in the 10/11 age group and one in the 11/12 age group. Tournament winners at the District level advance to the State Tournament. State tournament winners in the 11/12 age group only would then advance to the Regional tournament with the goal of reaching the Little League World Series – the largest and most highly regarded youth sporting tournament in the world. It has been played in the Williamsport area since 1947 and each World Series game, along with several regional tournament games are televised worldwide on ABC and the ESPN family of networks. More information on this will be provided to you soon.
Our hope is that kids playing in Big League and travel baseball with UAJBA also decide to play Bear Cub Baseball. It would give them a chance to play additional games during the baseball season with an opportunity to play positions in the field that they may not get to play on these more elite teams. Does your son get to play shortstop or get to pitch in travel ball? If not, he would get experience at those positions on his Bear Cub team. We will make an effort to schedule Bear Cub games around Big League and travel schedules as Big League and travel schedules have already been set for the most part. And, once again, Bear Cub Baseball, through our affiliation with Little League International, is the only league in our area that gives your child the opportunity to play for a spot in the Little League World Series.
